Youth Development Programme Objectives

OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT

To develop 20 grade 11 learners in each of the three schools to facilitate a peer education support group:

 To develop and implement an on going support groups for youth in schools.

 To work with boys in secondary education.

 To develop creative programmes and workshops that encourage them to overcome peer pressure, crime, domestic violence and gender based violence, drug abuse and HIV/AIDS.

 To encourage self-responsibility and self-confidence that will encourage them to respect life and become positive leaders in their schools and communities.

 These groups will enable to address issues in their schools and communities such as drug abuse, domestic violence and gender based violence, crime and HIV/AIDS.

 To encourage them to have healthy relationships with their teachers, peers and families.

 To encourage them to be involved in school activities such as sports, music etc.

 To mentor and give them a clear understanding of themselves and how to overcome life obstacles.

 To create a safe space for these boys to talk about issues that are occurring in their daily lives e.g. in school, their families and in the community.

 To encourage them to form circles of support within their school and to mentor the other learners that will be new in the programme.
